This series of objects explores the bequeathed legacy of this tea set, passed down to Grae from her grandmother, combining family history with modern sentiments. “Heirloomed Lady Parts” pays homage to the ritualistic social exchange through matriarchal lines, continuing and accepting the tradition of passing down these objects while analysing and unpicking the values associated with such traditions.
Soft textiles are used to make the objects – techniques reflecting what was considered to be ‘women’s handwork’, honouring women’s circles that passed craft and textile learnings down matriarchal lines; a space to share knowledge, stories, and livelihoods. This is a rebellious tea set, transmuting associated restrictive traditions into a reverential tribute to the multi-dimensional women who inherited the set before her.
